An interactive screening of ‘Girl Walk // All Day’ for Glasgow Film Festival
Collaborating with young people directing the Youth Programme of Glasgow Film Festival and three dance organisations based in Glasgow we produced a meanwhile activation of the embankment of the River Clyde.
We have gone on to explore this area through further projects, including Meet Our Waterfront which looks to develop new public realm along the riverside whilst repairing the quay wall. This initial meanwhile activation forms the beginning of creating a new narrative for this under-loved site in the city centre.
The activation began with a ‘flash mob’ style Dance Walk through the city. Beginning at Glasgow Film Theatre the young people led the walk wending its way down the major shopping precincts of Buchanan Street and St Enoch Square to the riverside site and gathers a public audience along the way.
DanceHQ and 1 Blud Crew were commissioned to choreograph interactive live dance routines which accompanied the energy in the chosen film: Girl Walk // All Day and encouraged audience participation.
The dramatic transformation of the redundant and grey site on the embankment into an inspiring and engaging performance theatre brought a new aspiration and audience to the site, changing the public perception of the purpose and potential uses of the site in the future.
